We are located on the southern shores of Lake Michigan and a short rail ride from the historic Art Institute of Chicago. The District is in a position to become a place for artists and creative persons to live and work. The South Shore Rail Line's Miller Station is the gateway to the District which stretches north to the beaches of Lake Michigan. We are surrounded by a National Lake Shore recreational area and rolling sand dunes.

The objective of the District is to create a diverse, welcoming and vibrant cultural destination for the visual, performing and culinary arts as a catalyst for community regeneration, sustainability and livability. Restaurants, arts related retail stores, galleries, dance studios, studio space (live/work) and entertainment venues are a few of the planned economic development ventures in the District.
The District is a 501(c)6 organization operating as a community development corporation.
