Miller Beach Arts & Creative District
Lake Street’s business district will become a visual explosion of artistic expression Saturday as 19 local, regional and Chicago-based artists will participate in Massive Art Attack: Pop Up Art on Lake Street.
Miller Beach Arts and Creative District is proud to have received the recognition for our contributions to the community as a premier provider of art and culture for the Gary area.
“I like the event because it brings out a lot of people to come out and appreciate art and have conversation. It is great to see all of these talented artists in our community,”
“I was surprised to see so many people walking along Lake Street, especially people from other parts of Northwest Indiana. It has been a great crowd,”
"Miller Beach Arts and Creative District is the best place in the world to get inspired and create beautiful art."

A "Market Hall" is an outdoor exhibit area for art exhibits and farmers markets. Thirty exhibit spaces are planned (yellow spaces). This area is south of the South Shore Dance Alliance Building (Old Miller School). This will be the "gateway" to the District.
The Marshall J. Gardner Center for the Arts
This building was formerly Miller Drugs. The building was built by Marshall J. Gardner in 1959 who operated the business, Miller Drug Company until until 1974 when he sold the business to his employee Frank Persic. Frank closed the business in 2008. Marshall founded the company in the early 1950's and operated out of the location which is currently occupied by Ming Ling restaurant. As fate would have it Ming Ling and Miller Drugs closed on the same day in 2008.
In December of 2010 The Gardner Family agreed to donate the building to the District of which we are overwhelmingly thankful. We have named the center for Marshall who was passionate about the community and his business who's customers still remember him.
